Emotional Freedom Technique
as designed by Gary Craig.
I have been using this Emotional Freedom Technique since 2007 on everything, physical, emotional, mental & spiritual; from opening a stuck cupboard door, creating car parks in busy locations, finding technical website & html solutions; to ‘healing’ emergency hospital-strength asthma, a set of crushed fingers, bee stings on (myself &) children, to releasing life long emotional pain, clearing mental confusion and evolving spiritual consciousness. And many many more examples in between.
Quite simply, if something is not happening as you want it to yet, you can EFT it to change your reality. If there is a goal, an intention you are setting, you can EFT that too! It does not make any difference if you word the set-up statement as positive or negative … the EFT is releasing emotions around the topic and/or the experience.
The key to successful EFTing is to understand that we usually have more than one emotional aspect (sometimes oodles of them!) on anything we have been harbouring (holding onto/emotional attached to) for awhile! Just like the common cold has different symptoms (each EFT’d separately cures the cold!), so do many of our emotional pains/dis-eases. So, we need to persist if the issue did not clear up in the first, or the first few rounds of EFT. I EFT’d heaps of issues, physical, emotional, intellectual & spiritual regarding the chronic pain I was experiencing in my hip joints, but was unable to stop the progression of the pain … until late one night I EFT’d “Maybe I am afraid of surgery.” I didn’t even believe my words … but figured it was worth 30 seconds of my time to do an EFT on the concept! The very next day I was inspired to change Doctors, this lead to surgery; which up until then I was unaware of its inevitability!
We can use EFT on others, or on ourself on behalf of others, I borrow from the Ho’Oponopono philosophy here and always say the EFT in my 1st person, as if it is me with the issue. (Because, guess what … if it is in my reality, then it is my issue ~ giving me 100% responsibility for this and the ability to change it, if I want to.)
I am not going to re-write Gary Craig’s book here to explain the value of this technique, when you can buy his book ~ “The EFT Manual” and use his resources at http://EFTUniverse.com … nor am I going into any detail about how to do an EFT. Other than to say it is as easy as:
- we need to repeat a “Set-Up Statement” three (3) times while tapping on our karate point on the side of our other hand, to confirm our polarities are the right way up (because our North/South Poles can switch, leaving us unable to shift to a new paradigm, new perspective). Gary mentioned that this is an issue about 40% of the time.
A set-up phrase would sound/look something like any of these examples:
“Even though I have …… I deeply and completely love and accept myself,”
“Even though I don’t have …… I deeply and completely love and accept myself,”
“Even though I (don’t) want ……….. I deeply and completely love and accept myself,”
“Even though I am ………. I deeply and completely love and accept myself,” etc, etc, etc - We then repeat a “Reminder Phrase” to keep our focus on the issue at hand (not the whole “set-up statement”) while tapping 4-6 times on the following pressure points. Tap gently on the:
Crown ~ using 4 fingertips on centre of crown.
Eyebrow ~ using 2 fingertips at beginning inner edge of eyebrow.
Side Eye ~ 2 fingertips on edge of outer eye socket bone.
Under Eye ~ 2 fingertips on edge of under eye socket bone.
Under Nose ~ 2 fingertips centred between nose and upper lip.
Chin ~ 2 fingertips centred on crease under lower lip on chin.
Collarbone ~ 2 fingertips on end of bone, to the side of the hollow, at base of throat.
Under Arm ~ 4 fingertips centred 10cm (4 inches) below armpit. (on bra strap if you have one on!)Here is a map of the pressure points we tap on, it does not matter which hand we use, or which side of our body we tap, or if we mix it up. If it doesn’t work the first time, change your wording and do it again. If it is about the same symptom, see if you can find separate ‘discomforts’ or feelings within the symptom.
I use Gary’s Shortcut method … because it works every time and it only takes me a few seconds! On my videos, I slow down to allow others to keep up. Here is a sample of one of my videos that I do each week for my other blog at http://CreativeGoalSetting.com/blog
You will notice, I am very casual about the process, in fact I change the “set-up statement” and the “reminder phrases” … that’s just me being intuitive to include people’s potential emotional issues, yet meanwhile I am very focused on the issue at hand. While you are learning this technique and doing the EFTs on your own, I recommend repeating your “set-up statement” and “reminder phrase” word for word.
